San Francisco has got it going on, my friends.
It is absolutely one of our favorite places to visit. Not only is the scenery beautiful, the weather is always perfect, and the food is incredible.
One thing that they have seemed to have perfected is their coffee. I don’t know if it’s the water they are using or what, but they make some damn good coffee. Whether you order a pour over, a mocha, or a latte, it won’t disappoint. Sure, they do have the frequent Starbucks around the city, but the majority of the coffee shops out there are specialty shops and know how to do their own thing with perfection. Each shop has a different vision, vibe, and way of doing things. Four Barrel, Blue Bottle, Ritual, & Sightglass are just a few of the many amazing shops out there.
However, when I think of coffee in SF, I think of Philz. Their philosophy is to provide a pure cup for every customer. They brew their coffee one cup at a time, per each customers preference. The thing you will notice as soon as you walk in there, is that they don’t offer lattes, americanos, mochas, etc.They only offer a pure cup of coffee. Their menu is complete with 20 different customized blends with beans from around the world. 20 different blends. There is something for everyone, I guarantee it.
First you choose if you want light, medium or dark roast. After you have narrowed that down, their menu describes all the flavors that make up each different roast. My personal favorite is the medium roast Philtered Soul [hazelnut-cocoa-syrup], while Goodman goes for the dark roast Tantalizing Turkish [caradamom-maple-herbs] with a subtle mint flavor. Finally, after choosing your roast, you let them know how you take it. Light, medium, or dark. That just describes how much cream and sugar you take! I’m a medium kind of girl myself.
Anyways, you’ll just have to check it out yourself. Trust me, it’s worth a trip across the country for it.
